Rope Tales is pleased to present a deeply focused workshop in Milan.
Gote is more than a shape. Gote is a topos in Japanese culture. Being “gote” -literally “hands behind”- means to be forestalled, deprived of initiative. In traditional Japanese games “gote” is the player who makes the second move, after “sente” has played.

During this workshop we will not talk about the pattern of any specific gote. We will analyze the general structure of any tie securing the hands behind the back. We will learn to create and improvise different bindings for different bodies, different types of load (torsions, verticals, backbends…) and different contexts.
The participation of Akane
During this week we will host several events with the participation of Akane.
She will model for one demonstration during the workshop; moreover, each attendee (top and bottom) has free access to the talk session of Sunday night, after the workshop. On top of that, workshop attendees can benefit from a 50€ discount on the Kinbaku Photography Study Group of Friday night, during which 8 photographers will have the chance to shoot pictures of Akane tied by Kirigami.

For different reasons, “gote” has been crystallized in different shapes by many Japanese and western masters, to the point that we hear talking about patterns called by the name of the Master who crystallized them. Actually, each Master I had the opportunity to meet, never had a fixed version of their gote. On the contrary, their favourite way of tying the hands behind the back constantly evolves in time and adapts to different bodies and contexts.
During this workshop we will not talk about the pattern of any specific gote. We will analyze the general structure of any tie securing the hands behind the back. We will learn to create and improvise different bindings for different bodies, different types of load (torsions, verticals, backbends…) and different contexts.
To do so it will be necessary to tie different people. All the participants, tops and bottoms, wll be required to swap partners during the class. Each swap must be agreed by all parties involved. The success of the workshop is important, but the physical and emotional well being of all the participants is obviously more important.
Practitioners all over Europe are fascinated by the old school aesthetics of an unstructured gote. We will explore the possbilities and the risks associated with a less formal way of tying the arms, trying to maintain the priciples of traditional Japanese aesthetics in place.

Prerequisites

Solid TK – any style
Arm binder – any style
Smooth and safe suspension lines management

Being open to tie different partners during the workshop
For bottoms:

Ability to self monitor nerve compression and bloodflow restriction
Being open to be tied by different partners during the workshop
We will evaluate (and vet) individually any applicant before allowing subscription.
You might be requested to send pictures or videos of your bondage.

- Body handling: impact of transitions on an unstructured gote

Suspension lines
Fast bail out in case of emergency requires efficient line management. It is crucial for every rigger to be fast and proficient in line management.

Kirigami and Tenshiko are a couple both in ropes and in life.
They have been teaching and performing in different European cities since 2012. In 2016 they opened School of Rope Milano, where they teach traditional bondage three times a week to local students and foreign visitors.
Their rope is inspired by the most traditional Japanese style bondage, with an eclectic approach encompassing both private sessioning and photography.
